Taylor Swift Pre-Teen NY Debut

| October 22, 2012

Today Taylor Swift is a superstar.  But ten years ago, she was a 12 year old girl from Pennsylvania with a dream.  She sang everywhere she could with the hope that it would help her achieve that dream.  One of those opportunities was a talent contest during a Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  She recalled the story with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “I did a talent show where I sang one of my songs at halftime in the middle of the court during a Knicks game.  I was 12 years old.  I sent in a tape, got to be a finalist, they had all these kids in the middle of the court, and based on audience reaction, somebody won.  The kid who won did a song about New York.  It was smart.  He had a good song choice there.  I did hundreds of things like this.  You try everything to make it work and make it happen.  It feels like someone else’s life.  I had a normal life, I went to school, and then afterward I played guitar at a coffee shop.  It felt like an after-school activity that turned into more.”
