Strait’s Incredible Golf Resort

Last time George Strait co-hosted Country Countdown USA, he mentioned he had just purchased a golf resort near his home in San Antonio.  In November, George presided over the grand opening of The Resort at Tapatio Springs.  George told Lon Helton about the event: “It went great, it really was fun, we had a golf tournament one day.  The Randy Rogers Band and Asleep At the Wheel performed that night, and I got up and sang a few songs with both of them.  We had perfect weather.  We’re still in a transition period.  When we got it, we were in the middle of a terrible drought, but we’ve had some rains in the winter, and I think our spring will be fantastic.  It’s beautiful out there.”

Golf has become a favorite hobby for George.  He told Lon that he enjoys playing, and is pretty proud of his handicap: “I’m probably around a ten or eleven.  I was a 9 at one point.  I can’t get consistent at it any more, but it’s fun trying.  I love to play golf.  I would play every day if I could.  When I’m home and not working, I actually do play every day.  If I don’t, I feel like I missed out on something.
