CMA Fest: Faith’s New Music

| June 10, 2012

Faith Hill gave a rare concert performance Saturday night at the CMA Music Fest in Nashville, and it was designed as a treat for her fans.  Prior to the show, she told the media: “We will play a couple songs from the new album, and a few songs they made hits for me as well.  I’m very excited.  They are full of energy, and there’s a lot of great things musically going on, they’re great songs. ‘Over Rated’ is one, and ‘Illusions’ is another.”

When will you go on tour? “That’s the question that everybody’s asking me.  I hope this year.  A few shows anyway.  I haven’t toured in a real long time.  Pretty excited to be up on stage playing music.  We had sound check this afternoon, and didn’t want to leave, they had to kick us off the stage.  So we’re excited.”

What do you remember about CMA Fest and Fan Fair? “I think the most vivid memory I have of the Festival was I sold t-shirts for Reba in her booth. I worked for her fan club, and I remember that more vividly than I remember the beginnings of my career.  It’s amazing that country music fans are so dedicated.  There is no other music genre in the world that has the kind of support that country music has.  It’s incredible, so I’m so excited to be on this stage tonight playing for them, and I put the show together tonight with them in mind, it’s an energetic high octain show, so it’s good to be back.”

The status of the duets album: “I’m sure that will happen, but the truth is it’s not something on the schedule right now.  I spent a great deal of time on this new album, and for good reason because I was trying to redefine my own identity as an artist that has grown, and is searching for a place I can live creatively.  I’m excited and I look forward to do a record with my hudband because he’s my husband.  It would be good when it happens for sure.”

Father’s Day is next week, so what’s the best way to celebrate: “I think honestly just the time together, when it’s just relaxing and laid back.  When too much effort is  put into something, that’s what we do for a living.  So when we have moments together when it’s just us, I’d say that’s what Tim would say is his favorite.”

What did you mean by ‘redefining?’ I meant that as a personal exploration.  I’m not reinventing myself.  I came from the church, and I am a soul singer.  I have tried to mesh the two worlds together.  To bring those two worlds together in a way that’s authentic and true is important.  I want my music to be truthful and honest.”
