McGraw Heard Red Solo Cup First

| May 26, 2012

Today, we associate the hit song “Red Solo Cup with Toby Keith.  But it could have been recorded first by Tim McGraw.  That’s because two of the songwriters, Brad & Brett Warren, write for Tim’s publishing company.  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton spoke with Tim about Red Solo Cup: “I heard this song back when I heard ‘Felt Good On My Lips,’ and really loved it.  I never thought it would be a song I would record, I think it found a perfect home with Toby.  I’m a huge Toby fan, I like the way he stands out of the box and makes his own records.  I’m a huge fan of Toby’s, I have a lot of respect for how he handles his business.  The demo they made of the song, I was trying to find a way to make that work on my record without me recording it, because I didn’t think it was perfect for me.  It wasn’t my kind of thing, I couldn’t pull it off, I never tried.  Toby was the best person in the world to do that song.  It’s crazy and it sort of proves that not playing it safe is the way to be a great artist.”
