Garth Brooks in Hall of Fame

| March 6, 2012

It’s always a special day when new members are announced for the Country Music Hall of Fame.  The ceremony was held in the rotunda, where the bronze plaques of the members are displayed.  There, the new members were announced one by one: Musician Hargus “Pig” Robbins, legendary singer Connie Smith, and the top selling male artist of all time: Garth Brooks.

All three artists attended the ceremony, and all three spoke.  Garth told the audience, “It’s kind of odd to be in this room.  You always wanted to be mentioned in the same breath with George Strait and Reba McEntire, those are the two heroes I grew up with.  Haggard & Jones. Now you’re gonna be in the same hall with them.  Make no mistake I don’t feel like I’m on that level.  But it’s pretty cool to have your name listed with them.”

Garth also acknowledged his mother, Colleen, who passed away in 1999, as being someone who would be thrilled with the news that her son was in the Country Music Hall of Fame. “She believed I should have been in the Hall of Fame before I even got into country music.  Right now she’s goin,’ ‘It’s about time!’  She was a true mama, so she’s very happy today.”
