Dierks Duets With His Daughter

| March 10, 2012

Dierks Bentley performed on one of his favorite stages last month: Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.  He debuted several songs from his new CD, “Home,” available February 7th.  One of those songs, one he wrote called “Thinking Of You,” was inspired by his 3 year old daughter Evie.  In fact, in the album version, Evie can be heard singing part of the song.  So when Dierks performed it on the Ryman, Evie surprised the crowd by joining her father on stage to sing the song.

The song “Thinking Of You” is the last song on Dierks’ new CD.  He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton how it came about: “My daughter wanted to sing the song to me for my birthday, and they sent it to me while I was on the road in Washington DC, and it was so cool, we put it on the record.  I’m not the kind of dude who normally puts his daughter on his record, but it happened so organically, it just had to be, so there it is.  The video footage is hilarious.  She holds the headphones with one hand, like she’s trying to find her pitch.”

The Ryman show had additional significance because it was one of the last on the stage that’s been in place since 1951.  Dierks told Lon: “It only added to the freaked out nature of that show.  To find out they’re going to replace the floor, it’s a little bit of pressure.  We wanted to tear it up, but not literally.  I don’t want to take the floor with me.  But I might have chissled out a piece.  Just kidding.  The Opry Police were on hand.  I hope it’s in a good spot, and if they ever need a place to donate it, we have a back lounge on the bus.”
