Thompsons Knew Teenage Chris

| December 10, 2011

Chris Young has had his share of success in the past five years.  He won Nashville Star in 2006, and was signed to RCA Records.  He’s had a string of four #1 songs. He just won two awards including Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Americam Country Awards.  But our co-hosts this week, Thompson Square, say they’ve known Chris since he was a teenager!  Keifer and Shawna told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “We’ve known Chris since he was 15 or 16 years old.  I remember him going to a lot of the same contests we were doing, songwriters nights and things like that, with his sister and his mom.  Then he won Nashville Star, and everything started taking off for him.  It was really exciting to see that, because he’s a great singer and a super nice guy.”

This summer, Thompson Square had a chance to renew their friendship with Chris as they all joined Jason Aldean for the My Kinda Party Tour.  But according to Shawna, their friendship turned to competition when it came to playing video games: “Keifer and I are a little addicted to Call Of Duty, which is an X-Box game, and I invited him on the bus to play and he never took me up on it.  I think he was scared.”

So are Keifer & Shawna big gamers? “We weren’t, I haven’t played video games since Pac Man.  Then our merchandise guy brought Call Of Duty on the road.  Now we play COD up until the moment we go on stage, then afterwards, everybody runs back to see who can get to the controllers first.  So it’s very addictive.”
