Flatts & Hunter Hayes Thaw Out
When the holidays end, Rascal Flatts will begin their Thaw Out 2012 winter tour, featuring Sara Evans and newcomer Hunter Hayes. Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton asked them what they knew about Hunter. Joe Don says, “We met him first 8 or 9 years ago. We were near New Orleans doing a festival, and his parents brought him to the show. Here’s this kid with a little squeeze box. It’s amazing, and I remember that name, Hunter Hayes, you won’t forget it, but here he is now, his parents have been great, they’ve been behind him the shole way, and he’s a heck of a talent.”
What stands out in Hunter’s musicianship and as a performer? Gary: “He puts a lot of emphasis on entertaining.” Joe Don: “Our producer worked with Hunter on his album, and Hunter played every instrument and wrote all the songs. It sounds like a band, but it’s just one man, so you hear his heart in his music. As a guitar player, he’s got the chicken-pickin’ thing he does well, but he also leans a little blues. You have to be born with that blue note soul, and he’s got it. So we’re lucky to have him in this genre.”
