Strait’s Year of Milestones

This is a year of many personal milestones for George Strait.   He released his first single in 1981, so this is the 30th anniversary of his recording career. His son Bubba was born 30 years ago.  And he will celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary with wife Norma in December.

Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton spoke with George about his amazing year: “My gosh, yeah, everybody’s throwing all these big numbers at me this year.  But yeah, we’re coming up on 40, and that’s hard to believe too.”

How long did you date? “About 3 days!  Why Wait?  No, off and on, about a year maybe.  But we’re having a great time.  I’m home a lot more, and even when I’m on tour, now that Bubba is grown up, she goes out with us, so we have a lotta fun, we’re enjoyin’ life.”

The other exciting news for the Strait’s is that his son Bubba and his wife Tamara are expecting their first child.  That means that George will become a grandfather.  George told Lon, “I’m gonna be a grand-dad!  They’re expecting a baby in February, so we’re all excited about that.  They’re pretty sure it’s a boy, so I’m looking forward to it.” 

Bubba’s wedding took place last December.  George told Lon he sang at the wedding, although he forgot which song.  He has no shortage of great wedding songs to pick from.  The irony is that Bubba’s first anniversary will take place within days of his parent’s 40th.
