Strait’s Got A New Way to Swing

When George Strait isn’t on a stage or a horse, you’re likely to find him on a golf course.  In fact, he probably spends more time golfing than in music.  So it was no surprise when earlier this year, George Strait became partner in the Tapatio Golf Course and Resort, outside San Antonio TX.  He spoke with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton (also an avid golfer) about his new venture:

What’s the story about this golf course? It’s a little resort, 120 rooms, we’ve redone all of those, redoing the club house and the golf course, so we’ve been busy.

What’s your involvement? I’ve been out there with a hammer and nails, fixing it up.  Just kidding.  We’ve planted some trees, redone the resort hotel, redoing the club house, restaurants, the pro shop, the bar area, giving it a huge facelift, and if we can ever get some rain, we’d be doing good.  I want to make it a place to where people will come from all over and visit and enjoy, and I think it’ll be that way.

Is it a famous or historic course? It’s a course that opened a long time ago, it was beautiful, but just needed a little TLC to bring it back to where it should be.  Over the years, it had not been taken care of to where it should be, and we’re tring to change that.

I’m looking forward to a grand opening tournament? We’re hoping to get that happening in November.  But it’s up and running now. If anyone wants to come down to the Resort At Tapatio Springs, we’re open for business!
