Scotty’s Support: His Mama Judy

| October 7, 2011

One person came up several times during Scotty McCreery’s interview with Lon Helton on Country Countdown USA: His mom Judy.  She was with him all day.  She was also there in the recording studio during the making of the album: “Two songs passed the mama crying test.  They played ‘Dirty Dishes,’ and mama started crying, and I knew we had to cut it.  The other one is the new single, ‘The Trouble With Girls.’ I was struck by it.  I looked at my mama and said, ‘If you’re doing the dishes, you’ll stop and listen to it.'”

Scotty’s mom is also there for his school work.  “When I’m on the road, mom is a certified K thru 12 teacher. So she’s getting all the assignments straight for me.  But when I’m home I go to school.  Initially the county had two cops who walked me to calss, but the kids left me alone.  I didn’t want them to think I was a big shot.  I came in with shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt.  I felt like a freshmen on my first day of high school. I looked at my mama and said, ‘Mom I hope this day goes well,’ like a freshman in high school.  So it went just great.  We had a meeting with the principal, he told the school, ‘Scotty’s back, no autographs, no pictures.’  So it worked out that when people asked me, I told them ‘The principal said I can’t do it or I’ll get suspended.'”
