Scotty & “Your Man” Phenomenon
It was the song that got him on the show. It was the song that helped him win. It’s the song that he performs every night. We’re talking about “Your Man.” That song was the first #1 for Josh Turner, and became an important song for Scotty McCreery. He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “I never knew that song was gonna take off like it did. Everywhere I went, and ever night, I haven’t gone to sleep without getting a tweet, ‘Hey Scotty, lock them doors and turn the lights down low.’ From random people.” Lon asked, why that song? “It just fit perfectly, I wanted to show off a little deepness in the voice and also show the higher range, and it did both, we were happy we did it, it worked for me. There were three auditions in Idol and then we got the judges. I think I had one yes at the time, and then we did that song, and after that, they put me through to the judges. Luckily they put me through, otherwise I’d still be bagging groceries.”
WEB EXCLUSIVE: There was one other song during Scotty’s audition that impressed the judges: “They asked if I could carry the big stage, and I said ‘Let me sing some Frank Sinatra for you.’ So I did a country version of Frank Sinatra and they let me through. That song never made it on TV. It was a different take on Sinatra. I did ‘The Way You Look Tonight.’ I never did it in the show. I probably did it in the shower. That’s about it.”
