Blake Shelton Cuts Footloose
A couple weeks ago, the remake of the movie “Footloose” was released. This week’s co-host, Blake Shelton, was chosen to sing the famous theme song, orginally done by Kenny Loggins. He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton it was the only song he wanted to do: “They asked me to be on the soundtrack, but they wanted a female to do the title song. I told them either I do that song or nothing. So we went in, recorded it, and the director liked what we did. We went to a private screening of the movie, and I thought it was awesome. I got to know Julianne Hough when we were both on tour with George Strait. In fact, she got the news about this movie during that tour.”
Last month, Blake shot a video for the song, and he says it was bigger than a typical video: “I’ve done a lot of videos, but I don’t think any of them were as fun as the Footloose video. We did it outside Nashville, they had this old drive-in movie theater, and it had all these kids dancing, and it’s fun to watch the video and know this film is new to this generation.”
Blake told Lon he actually got a sneak peak at the movie back in June: “We were in LA working on the first season of The Voice, and took a day off to watch a private screening, this was before I recorded the theme song, and I thought the movie was awesome. I was congratulating everybody involved when I left. I think they did an amazing job of capturing the original story, but bringing it up to date.”
