Zac Brown’s Gift To Kenny
Kenny Chesney has been on the road this year with Billy Currington and The Zac Brown Band. Zac was only part of Kenny’s stadium shows, but he had a very special role. For one thing, Zac has brought his famous “Eat & Greet” to the Goin’ Coastal Tour. For another, Zac & his band joined Kenny for the encore, performing a bunch of classic covers as well as some of their hits.
But that’s not all. When we caught up with Kenny at the Meadowlands Stadium, he was holding on to a very unusual coffee mug, and he told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that it was a gift from Zac: “You see this glass right here? I don’t know what this is, but I think Zac made this thing. Zac can do everything. He’s a computer genius, great songwriter, great cook, I don’t think there’s anything Zac can’t do. We’ve had a blast with Zac and his band & crew. The moment they come on stage to do the encore, the fans love it. When the tour started, nobody knew “Knee Deep.” Now when we do Knee Deep and it’s incredible, people love that song, what a great record. I said to him ‘Thanks for doing Knee Deep, you made our show great!’ So we do that and a couple other things, and I respect Zac a lot.”

When Lon wrapped up his interview with Kenny, we were leaving the stadium, walking through the bus parking lot, and we heard someone calling Lon’s name. We turned around and it was Zac! He was there hanging out with his band on their bus, and he spotted us leaving the venue. So he came over and invited us to his Eat & Greet. On show day, Zac set up his Eat & Greet in the VIP Parking Lot on the north side of the stadium. Zac told us that fans buy a special ticket, usually with the concert ticket, to attend the Eat & Greet. Zac himself is there to oversee the entire affair, and met with fans who were there. And by the way, the food is tremendous!
