Trace Adkins: I Don’t Like Sap

| August 27, 2011

Trace Adkins has one rule when it comes to picking songs for a new album: No sap.  He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton it takes a certain type of song to get his attention: “I appreciate the craftiness of the songwriters in coming up with ways to say something sappy without it being sappy.  That’s what I don’t like about love songs.  It’s just that over the top, sappy, sweety crap.  I just don’t like that kind of stuff.  I don’t wanna sing it, and I don’t even want to hear it!  I don’t mind the love songs that have that sexy thing about them, there’s something else implied that’s not just the sappy side of love, but that aggressive sexy part if it.  I dig that, but my wife won’t let me talk about it out loud.”

You can hear more of what Trace is talking about on his new album, “Proud To Be Here,” available August 2.  Listen for Lon’s World Premiere on country radio stations around the country.
