Toby Keith Celebrates the 4th
Toby Keith is celebrating 4th of July wekeend with a brand new patriotic song called “Made In America.” Recently, we got a chance to speak with Toby about his new song, his recent USO tour, and his thoughts about Independence Day.
Tell me about the inspiration behind “Made In America. “Just being on the road, seeing America every day, we see the country on our motorcycles, and we wanted to write about this guy who still has that red, white, and blue heart beating. It’s like that’s my old man. My old man is this old man. Same kind of guy as my dad. Actually this guy may be more rational than my dad. My dad was extremely blue collar. This guy might have had more education.
Talk about the timing of this song, as you just came back from a trip to Iraq: I think this song relates to where people are now. You need to invest in America, it’s our country. For over 200 years we found freedom, and we became the biggest empire in the world, and to do this, you have to invest in yourself. And it’s difficult with the costs today to do stuff here, to get people to buy American, but it’s necessary. When you buy foreign, it’s not investing in the future. I would ask people to buy American.
You were in Iraq when Osama Bin Laden was killed, describe what that was like? We were actually on an airplane, coming back, when we got the news. It was great to know they accomplished a major goal and bringing justice for the people who were hit on 9-11. Courtesy of the Red White and Blue finally got its due that day.
This new single, Made In America, is being released on the 4th of July. What are your thoughts about that? It’s just like Courtesy Of the Red White & Blue. Everybody gets out and celebrates the holiday, everybody understands that it’s our birthday. But like the song says, every day is Independence Day. You can spend your time hating someone, but until you go see it, you don’t know what we’ve got. It’s very special to be born here in the United States.
Your Locked & Loaded Tour begins 4th of July weekend. What can people expect? Each year we’re excited about getting out, because we have new production, new whistles and bells, and a couple new songs, plus we’ve been off the road, so we’re very excited about getting out, pumping it up, and see what’s going on in America.
