Band Perry’s Urban Encounter
The Band Perry will tour Canada with Keith Urban in September. In anticipation of that, Keith invited TBP to his Nashville home to write a song. Keith explained the reason: “I just wanted to write with them, I thought it would be fun. They’re so talented. I also wanted to get to know them before we hit the road.” Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton spoke to The Band Perry about writing with Keith: “That whole day, we were writing with him, I was like, ‘OK, we’re writing at Keith Urban’s farm, no big deal!” Kimberly said,”He also knew our individual names. A lot of people think the boys are twins, and he knew their names. I ended up putting my guitar down during that writing session, and said, ‘Keith, I think you’ve got the guitar part down.'”
Here are some parts of Lon’s conversation with The Band Perry that didn’t make it into the radio show. Kimberly described the day this way: “The day was so much fun, because half of the day was writing, and the other half was beginning to build a friendship with him, to hear his journey from Australia to where he is today, we asked a lot of questions, like what were your bumps in the road, how do you make an album, who did you open for, and he also opened for Tim McGraw. We also asked if he wanted to play guitar on our album. We asked that a lot.” Lon then asked about the song they wrote with Keith. Kimberly said, “When we went in with Keith we thought, how do we write a song that will get an entire arena up on their feet? We are about half way done with what we started, but I think we’re on to something.”
Keith Urban’s tour with The Band Perry will begin on September 9 in Ottowa, and continues for 11 shows through Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, wrapping up on September 26.
