Taylor’s European Obsession

| June 24, 2011

Taylor Swift brought her Speak Now tour to Europe in March.  While there, she had time to do some sightseeing.  She told Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton she visited a place she’s wanted to see since she was a kid.  “We went to this tiny town in Germany where they have this castle called Neu Schwanstein. I’ve always wanted to see that castle since I did a report on it in 4th grade.  That’s the one they patterned the Disney castles after.  I’m a little obsessed with castles.”  In fact, it wasn’t the only castle Taylor visited.  She saw one in Ireland that will always hold a special memory. “I took my entire band there for one day, and actually my guitar player chose to propose to his girlfriend there.  We were having lunch and I heard screaming, and I rushed up and Ashley had this big ring on his finger.  He didn’t tell anybody and we were so glad we got to be there.”

So how about souvenirs?  What did Taylor buy while she was in Europe? “We were in this town in Germany and they had an amazing shop where you could pour your own Balsamic vinegar dressing.  They have like all these different vinegars, and I got all these kinds of vinegar to cook with when I get back.  I got all these little Eiffel towers from Paris, it’s just cool to get stuff, bring it back and always remember those times.

What do you collect? “Antique Mason jars.  I like to go to antique shops, and they always have old Mason jars.  You can turn them into anything.  Over the decades, they made different jars.  I love looking through old pictures in antique stores.  It’s all stories, I love stories in musical form, in movies, and pictures tell a story too.”
