Keith Proposes The Award Awards

| June 12, 2011

We’re only six months into 2011, and already Keith Urban has attended dozens of awards shows, including the People’s Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, The Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and the CMT Music Awards.  Keith told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he has a suggestion for a new awards show: “I think there should be a show called “The Award Awards,” and they give out trophies for Best Acceptance Speech, you know, that kind of thing.  But they’re all fun, because the thing I enjoy from a music fan perspeciave is you get to see so many artists on one stage.  It’s fantastic!”

Lon asked Keith who he’s met recently that he’s always wanted to meet: “Neil Young.  I got asked to play MusicCares that honored Neil, and they wanted me to sing “Keep On Rockin’ In the Free World.”  So I asked John Foggerty and asked him to join me on it.  It was a little awkward because I never met Neil, and didn’t know what he thought about it.  But recently he was sitting near me at another awards show, and as I got up to talk to him, he actually got up first and walked over to talk with me, and we met properly, and he was just as lovely as could be.  I’m a Neil Young fan, because of the Harvest album.  That record is such a country record when you think of “Heart of Gold.”
