Friday Night Was Meant To Be

| February 1, 2014

Eric Paslay CDEric Paslay is enjoying his first hit song with “Friday Night,” thanks in part to Lady Antebellum.  The trio recorded the song three years ago for their “Own The Night” album, but never released it as a single.  Eric told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that’s when fate took over: “When it didn’t come out as a single, we were like, ‘Can we record it?’  I’d been playing the song on the road since the moment we wrote it, and I loved playing the song, and I guess it was meant to be that I recorded it and now it’s doing so good.  They’re a big part of people knowing about the song too.  A lot of Lady Antebellum fans were like, ‘We loved the song cause of their album, and then cause you wrote it, it was even cooler that you put it out.  But not everyone was so supportive.  I remember one day on iTunes, one of my buddies told me, ‘Hey you got one star on your iTunes review.’  The comment was like, ‘This guy’s just ripping off Lady Antebellum!’  So if my review is 4.9, it’s because of the guy who thinks I ripped them off.  But it’s really cool.  I’ve written with them a few times, including ‘Golden,’ which is the title song of their album.  From the songwriter side, you’re always thrilled to hear great singers sing your songs, but I’m thrilled to death that Friday Night is working with me singing on it too.  Thrilled to death we wrote that song that day, that Lady Antebellum recorded it, it was meant to be on their album, but I guess it was mean to to be on the radio with me singing it.”

Look for Eric Paslay on the road this spring with Brantley Gilbert and Thomas Rhett.
