Jake Owen Co-Hosts 7/23-24

| July 18, 2022

This week’s co-host is Jake Owen.  He was fresh from the American Century Celebrity Tournament: “It was an incredible time, my parents were with me, they had never been to Lake Tahoe.  They also joined me when I played the Capitol Fourth.  So I’d never been able to do anything like that with my family.”

The Capitol Fourth show took place on the steps of the US Capitol on the 4th of July: “To be there on our nation’s birthday, on the Capitol lawn was really great.  My kids were there too, they took us for a tour of the Capitol, and it couldn’t have been better.  Then the next day we flew to Lake Tahoe for the golf tournament.”

While in Tahoe for the golf tournament, Jake ran into Kenny Chesney: He was playing a show out there.  I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to see each other.  But then, the last day of the tournament, I was eating lunch with my family at the resort, and there he was! There was Kenny Chesney walking by. I gave him a big hug and said, ‘Surprise buddy!'”

Jake had this story about Maren Morris: “My little girl Pearl is obsessed with Maren Morris. She said to me ‘Dad I want to be on this Kidz Bop record. I need to record a song.’ It’s a cool way that they take songs and have kids singing massive hits.  She told me she wanted to sing ‘Circles Around This Town.’ This is the week we go in the studio to record it.”

The video for Jake’s current hit Best Thing Since Backroads features two classic cars.  A 60s Camaro and a 57 Bel Air.  “We’re big fans of cars, and those are a couple of my faves.  It was just a fun gathering.”  Did you really run out of gas? “I did.  I keep racing fuel in it.  So I forgot that I didn’t have any.  We were going up my driveway and we ran out of gas.  But that’s my car, and that’s my farm where we shot the video.”

Jake also has great stories this week about Walker Hayes, Tyler Hubbard, Parmalee, Dierks Bentley, and Clint Eastwood.

NEXT WEEK: Dylan Scott
