Elle King Co-Hosts 4/2-3
This week’s co-host is Elle King, who has a song in the Top 5 with Miranda Lambert. During the course of the Countdown, Lon & Elle will receive phone calls from Miranda and Dierks Bentley. They’ll also talk about Elle’s 6-month-old son Lucky.
Elle tells Lon that she wrote “Drunk” when she was 24, around the same time she was writing songs for her first album. “I had just started co-writing. I was sitting on this song. I knew it was a banger. Fast forward to now, I had a hit with Dierks, he introduced me to Miranda, and I asked her if she’d sing on it with me.”
At this point, Dierks Bentley called in. They talk about their duet “It’s Different For Girls:” “It was a song I loved, and she elevated it to a higher place. We won a CMA and got nominated for a Grammy.” Elle then said, “It’s funny, because all the things I was singing about are things I do.”
Lon asked Dierks if he’s heard any of Elle’s new music: “I have, in fact one song I’ve heard a lot. I’ve heard a song called ‘Worth A Shot.’ I feel like it’s going to be a huge hit.” Then Elle said, “I can’t wait until people can hear OUR song ‘Worth A Shot.'” So now we know that there will be a new Elle & Dierks duet on Elle’s album.
Halfway into the show, Lon & Elle receive a call from Miranda, and they talk about singing “Drunk” on last year’s ACM Awards: “When we opened the ACMs, I was getting sick side-stage. so I’d look at you, and you know you were going to sing the next line because I was going to throw up.” To which Miranda replied, “I’ve had to throw up on stage too, but not from being pregnant!”
In September, Elle became a mom for the first time, so Lon asked her how it’s going: “It gets me emotional. I’ve always wanted to be a mother. My son has changed me in every way. I experience joy & peace through him.” Where did his name Lucky come from? “I always loved the name. I know when I had him, we got lucky. I just want him to have a good road.”
In addition, Lon speaks to Cody Johnson, who has his first #1 with “Til You Can’t.” Cody told Lon, “We;ve been working a long time to get it, and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
Elle also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Ashley McBryde, and Kelsea Ballerini.
