Aldean Congrats Canaan Smith #1
It can be tough when your song gets jumped in the Top 30. Even tougher when you get jumped at #2. That’s what happened to Jason Aldean this week. The guy who jumped him was Canaan Smith, with his very first #1. In keeping with tradition, Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton called Canaan to congratulate him. Jason happened to be Lon’s co-host, and was there to join in. “I’m happy for you brother, I mean I hate that you jumped me at #2, but glad you got a #1. I’m happy for you, bro, congratulations.” Of course Jason’s had over a dozen chart-toppers.
Canaan was quick to thank Jason for providing some support early in his music career: “Jason, you cut one of my songs on your Night Train album that Tyler Hubbard & I wrote called ‘Black Tears’ and I was always so grateful for that.” Jason responded, “Absolutely, one of my favorite songs on that album, so congrats, hopefully this is the first of many.”
Canaan described the way his Sounds of Summer tour-mates gave him the news: “It’s the song I close the set with, and I turned around and there are all these people on the stage wearing these white suits with ‘#1′ on ’em, and the dude in the middle has an owl mask on his face, and he picks me up, and it’s obviously Dierks, and his mask falls off, it was pretty funny, I didn’t expect it, and it’s something I’ll never forget.”
