LBT’s Karen Leads, Except Dinner

| November 22, 2014

LBT 6-8-14With four members in Little Big Town, we wondered who is the leader.  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked who’s in charge? Kimberly answered: “Karen.  She’s the communicator. She’s the reason why we’re still a band.”

Did she take charge or was she put in charge? Karen’s husband Jimi said, “It’s just in her.  She’s a born leader.  She’s great.”  Karen interrupts, “I just probably took charge.  I’ll answer for them.  I don’t think anybody had a choice.  I enjoy that side of it, I like to know what’s going on, but I like the business side too.  But it works great.  They make the choices, but I remind them what we have to do.  They check it off their list, and move on their merry way.”

So when you’re going out to dinner, are you the one Karen who decides where to go?  The entire band replied, “No!  Phillip is too picky for that.  If you suggest something, his response will be, ‘So you guys really wanna go there? Really?'” Karen said, “That’s also what you do when you don’t like a song.  ‘Do you really like that song?’

So how does that work out? “I don’t think it works at all.” Jimi said, “He is so sad when he gets the wrong food that we can’t bear it.  We’ve learned over the years to let him have his way with food.”  Karen said, “He’ll order every appetizer on the menu in because he’s afraid he’ll miss one.” Phillip responded, “I love food.  We do well at family style restaurants.  You just can’t take Jimi’s last bite.  Phillip will ask, ‘Hey how are the shrimp & grits?’  And we won’t make eye contact.”

D0 end up with carry-out on the bus? “If there’s no Whattaburger on the bus, even if he says he doesn’t want one, he really wants it.  He will smell it, and asks, ‘Why didn’t anyone order one for me?’

After all this, Phillip said, “I can laugh at myself!”
