Flatts Respond to Lady A Comment
Backstage at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, a reporter asked Lady Antebellum how they felt about Rascal Flatts not being in the Vocal Group category. Charles Kelley said, “I couldn’t believe they weren’t in the category, and I don’t necessarily agree they should have been out of it. They deserve to be in it every year, they’re one of the biggest groups in country music, and a huge influence, and friends of ours, so they should have been in it for sure.” Those comments reached the Flatts guys, and Jay told Lon Helton of Country Countdown USA: “They were kind to us after the awards show to say how much our music has meant to them.” Gary said, “Last year when we won Artist of the Decade, they presented us with it, and had over-the-top nice things to say about how much of an influence we were on them musically, so it’s a good friendship we have.” Joe Don Rooney said, “I started writing with them early on, they used to come to my house, I used to go to their house, so it’s great to see their success.”
