Dierks: I’m Glad Jake’s Home!
Sunday night, a strong thunderstorm came through Nashville. At 8:23, Dierks Bentley posted on Twitter: Jake has been missing for 5 hours now. jumped a fence during the thunderstorms. praying someone found him. a cold wet white dog. red collar. Then, at 7:30 Monday morning, Dierks posted the good news: omg. my wife just told me someone found jake on facebook and is bringing him to our house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday afternoon, Dierks and Jake met with reporters at a rehearsal space north of Nashville, where Dierks described his harrowing experience: “We had a bad thunderstorm, and we didn’t hear about it because we were here rehearsing for the tour. But Jake hates thunder and he jumped over a big fence because he was freaked out. I was going to rehearse with Miranda, and my wife called and said Jake’s gone, and we don’t know where he is. We hoped he’d turn up, and he didn’t. Being around Miranda with her thousands of animals backstage, I couldn’t take it, so I started driving around in my neighborhood. Then I sent out on Twitter that he was missing, and it’s amazing how Twitter can make a big city feel like a small town. It was amazing how many people got back to me. Everybody was driving around looking for Jake, we searched for 7 hours and didn’t find him. So I went to bed not knowing what was going on. Weather wise it dropped 30 degrees, I knew he was wet and cold. On top of that, the dogs make noise in the morning, so I took the collar off that has his ID. I got a call at 7 AM, and someone had found Jake. It was the right person at the right time, a nurse at Vanderbilt, she stopped, picked him up, and too him to the vet. She didn’t know who the dog belonged to, but someone at the vet’s office was on Facebook, and they heard my dog was missing. But I’m still overwhelmed how many people texted. Like when my dad passed away. I feel how nice Nashville is. Even though it’s getting big, it feels like a small place.”
Dierks has been rehearsing for his Locked & Reloaded Tour that gets underway this Thursday. He performed a few songs for the media, ending with his #1 hit “Home.” He said the song had new meaning after his recent experience: Home has so many different meanings. Sunday night, all I wanted was Jake home. So when we kicked that song off today, the first thing I thought of is that Jake is now home. But I am glad Jake’s home.”
We’ll post more on the Locked & Reloaded Tour this weekend.
