Tim McGraw Signs New Deal

| May 21, 2012

Tim McGraw announced today that he has signed a record deal with the Big Machine Label Group.  The press conference was held in Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  Tim said he actually signed the deal a few weeks ago: “Many people know that I came to Nashville 23 years ago on a Greyhound bus with nothing but a guitar, and 23 years to the day, on May 9, I went back to the bus station and officially signed this deal. It was a significant way for me to mark this new beginning.”

The label is also home to Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, and many more.  Tim said, “I want you to know you can still get a record deal in Nashville if you’re over 30 years old.  A pretty good deal too!  But I’m just getting started. That’s the message I wanted to give you guys”

Tim said he’s already recorded 20 songs for a new album, and expects to perform a few of them during the Brothers of the Sun Tour with Kenny Chesney. “There’s a freshness to what we’re doing, the songs are incredible, I’ve had more fun than I’ve ever had, and I haven’t felt this way about music in a long time.  I have been writing, but so far, nothing has been good enough to make it.”

Tim said he brought his entire family to the bus station the night he signed his record deal: “I had my wife and daughters with me, we were concerned because of where we were, it was a fantastic day for me, the bus station has moved, but the symbolism was there.  I was a wide-eyes guy from Start Louisiana who didn’t have a clue, and in many ways, I’m the same way, I feel like I’m starting to figure it wout.  I’m starting to see a form I can hone in on.”

So will we hear more duets with Faith Hill?  “We always want to work together, it’s always a matter of finding time.  She’s in the middle of an album project, I’m in the middle of an album project, the problem is finding time, with three daughters, they dictate our timeline, so we have to manipulate how we work.”

Listen for more from Tim when he co-hosts Country Countdown USA this weekend.
