Keith Urban’s Gift From Brad

Keith Urban is good friends with fellow guitar-slinger Brad Paisley.  The two had a #1 duet a few years ago with “Start A Band.”  So when it was reported that Keith was going on vocal rest for a few weeks after his vocal surgery, Brad said he wanted to do a silent jam with Keith: “I told him, ‘Let’s do that. You don’t have to talk. We’ll get together. We’ll play guitar, set up some amps, go through some tubes, try some stuff out and tweak.’ I’ll do all the talking, which I am very capable of. He can just nod and grunt and do whatever he’s allowed to do.”

So when Keith co-hosted Country Countdown USA, Lon Helton asked if they got together: “No, because I knew it would be impossible to not talk about stuff.  I got a lot of people reaching out saying they wanted to hang out.  Vince Gill called and wanted to go guitar shopping, but it’s too hard.  You want to talk and ask questions.  God bless people wanting to do that!  But I’ll tell you what Brad did do.  He sent over this t-shirt that has a real speaker sewn into the from of the shirt, it’s a thin real speaker, with wires in the shirt, and it’s got a button that’s got laughter, applause, and sound effects, and he said, ‘Take that with you, and if someone tells a joke, hit the laugh track button.”
