Jackson, Brooks in Walk Of Fame
CMA Week began on Sunday in Nashville as Alan Jackson and Kix Brooks were inducted in the Music City Walk of Fame. Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton had the honor of inducting Alan. He showed the audience Alan’s first single, “Blue Blooded Woman,” on a blue vinyl 45 RPM record. Helton said the song peaked at #45 on the chart. Fortunately, the label was undaunted, and released Alan’s second single, “Here In The Real World,” which began a string of #1 hits. In his speech, Alan said, “I could thank a million people, but the fans are the ones who put my name on this Walk Of Fame.”
Reba McEntire was on hand to induct her friend and tour-mate Kix Brooks. She told the crowd she toured with Brooks & Dunn for four years. But she’s also remained friends with him, and even vacationed with him a few times. “I can honestly say the world is better, country music is better, and I am better because Kix Brooks has been in our lives.”
In addition to Kix Brooks and Alan Jackson, five others were added to the Walk: Clothes designer Manuel, gospel singer and TV host Bobby Jones, songwriter Dottie Rambo, guitar legend Les Paul, and TV host and newscaster Dan Miller. Other celebrities in the crowd included Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, who worked with Dan Miller, Marty Stuart and his wife Connie Smith, who inducted Manuel.
