Lainey Wilson Co-Hosts 3/25-26
This week, Lainey Wilson co-hosts the countdown. She’s in the Top 5 with “Heart Like a Truck,” plus her song with Hardy, “Wait In The Truck,” is in the Top 10. She is the CMA New Artist & Female Vocalist of the Year. “I tell you what, that was the biggest and best night of my life. Not to mention, my daddy got to walk the red carpet with me. That right there was a win in itself.”
So tell me about your father’s experience CMA night: “Oh my gosh, my daddy was in hog heaven. We were at a table with Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Elle King, he thought he was hot snot! I let him steal some of my thunder. I was OK with it.”
Lainey had a story when we got to Joe Nichols: I had to cancel a show a few weeks back because I was sick. Joe Nichols took my spot. He walked in the green room, there’s a video of this, he walked in and he’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, they got me a cake.’ So he opens up the lid, and there’s my face on the cake. He ended up taking a big handful of the cake and shoving it in his mouth!”
Lainey will play stadiums this year with Luke Combs. She’s known Luke since before either of them had record deals: “He used to come over to my camper trailer, and we’d write songs, and he’d drink my cold drinks and eat my snacks, and now he invited me on the road with him. He just believed in me from the beginning. and he put his money where his mouth is.”
It was around that same time that Lainey met the band Parmalee: “I have known these guys since 2013. I was part of a Christmas music video for them. I was one of the extras in the background. That was my claim to fame back then! I was in a Parmalee music video!”
In addition to her music, Lainey is part of the TV series Yellowstone: “I got to be myself playing the role of Abby. I got to wear bell bottoms, sing my own songs, so I got to play myself with a little salt & pepper. I had a kissing scene, I thought I was gonna end up on the prayer list back home! So I had to step out of my comfort zone. It was such a cool learning experience.”
Lainey also has great stories this week about Cole Swindell, Kane Brown, Dustin Lynch, Morgan Wallen, Hailey Whitters, and the Rolling Stones.
NEXT WEEK: Dylan Scott
