Sam Hunt Co-Hosts 3/26-27
This week’s co-host is Sam Hunt, who is in our Top 5 this week with “23.” He’s also been on the road quite a bit this year: “We’re playing festivals and fairs, anyplace that’ll have us, we’re up for playing after a year and a half off, we’re itching to get back out there. I told my manager to book us up, making up for lost time.”
Most people may not know that the song we know as “23” originally began as “22.” Sam explains: “I’ve had this song for several years. One of my co-writers suggested changing it to 23, and that just opened it up. I think the music made a big difference. We were also at the beach, that may have helped.”
Sam says he’s trying to enjoy the road a bit more: “This year we scheduled days to be able to hang out where we’re playing. We’re playing in Anchorage, and we have a week around that show, so we’re hoping to do some fishing. We’ve never been to Alaska, so we’re excited about that one.”
Sam’s current hit is the first single from his next album. Lon asked when we can expect the completed project? “I was able to write some songs in 2020. I’ve got 3 or 4 songs recorded. I imagine over the summer I’ll put some songs out, and hopefully have the album finished later this year.”
In between now and the summer, Sam surprised us with some big news: “I haven’t talked about this, but I have a little girl on the way. I have a baby coming in about 8 weeks. I blocked out two months at the end of May and early June. Really this year revolves around that big news in my life.”
Lon asked if he’s asked anyone for advice: “I saw Russell Dickerson a few weeks ago, we talked about fatherhood, I tried to pick his brain. Over the last 4-5 years, I’ve had a lot of buddies who’ve had their first kids. So I feel I’m ready for it.”
Then Lon asked if he’s thought about a name for the baby: “Not yet, we’re thinking about it. I want her to be in the world before we name her. I want to be able to look at her and decide what name suits her best.”
Sam also has great stories this week about Jake Owen, Walker Hayes, Jordan Davis, Cole Swindell, Hardy, and Russell Dickerson.
