New To The Top 30: Cam
We have a new artist in the Top 30 this week. A female singer from California named Cam. Her name is short for Camaron Ochs. She grew up on a ranch in Northern California, where the main music was classic country. That’s what she listened to, and that’s what she sang. She moved to Nashville just two years ago, and began writing songs. She raised money through a Kickstarter campaign to record some of those songs, and that led to an EP titled Welcome To Cam Country.
Cam’s song in the countdown is one she wrote called “Burning House.” The song came from a dream she had about rescuing a former boyfriend from a burning house. She says: “The writing of ‘Burning House’ was difficult for sure because it was such a big dream and it was such a emotional thing. Sometimes that’s hard to unpack by yourself, and if you have great co-writers who you trust, which I had Tyler Johnson and Jeff Bhasker who, one is one of my best friends and one is a mentor and a GRAMMY®-winning (laughs) songwriter. So the two of them, if anyone could help me pull this off, it was the two of them, and they did such a great job of keeping true to what the story was about and my experience and just helping me craft a song that was going to fully and really, you know, manifest my story.”
