Dierks Hosts Sounds of Summer
Dierks Bentley’s Sound of Summer Tour began last week, and this week, he got together with his tour-mates to co-host Country Countdown USA. Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae, and Canaan Smith all have songs in the Top 30, and one has his very first Top 10.
Out of the shoot, Maddie & Tae ask “Who’s bringing corn hole?” Canaan said he’s got it covered. Maddie & Tae offered to bring kiddie pools with a slip & slide. Dierks said, “Our bus has more toys on it. I got a CJ-7 Jeep, I just bought an inflatable fishing boat, we got a drone, I hope we find time to play some music. The drones are for all the pranks I’ve got planned for Kip,” who responded, “Believe me, I’m sleeping with one eye open.”
Dierks began the year by having his tour mates jump in a local lake on New Year’s Day. They were pretty upset about that, and Kip actually pranked Dierks, who said, “Kip got me pretty good, there’ve been some live animals in my truck, there’s been packing peanuts in my truck, spray paint. So I thought about drilling a microphone and inserting a 50 pound dumbbell. So you’d have to sing in that all night. I’m giving that idea away, because it’s so beginner.”
So Maddie & Tae asked about why Dierks jumps in the lake in January. “I do like cold water. I like cold showers. Then I go on the road and don’t shower at all.” Maddie said, “We have a rule on our bus that you must shower once a day.” Dierks said, “You get made fun of on my bus if you shower, especially if you use shampoo. Just kidding. I shower…sometimes.”
The new guy on the tour is Canaan Smith, who was first seen on the RV reality show Amazing Race. Kip said, “I saw something Canaan that I definitely saw in myself. The fury that he had when his partner wouldn’t go down the slide, I would have felt the same thing. I see the competitive nature.” Canaan explained, “We got eliminated because my partner at the time was afraid to go down the water slide. I wasn’t allowed to donkey kick her down the slide. That was a memory I’ll never forget. I literally wanted to kill somebody.”
Everyone had great stories about the artists in this week’s Top 30. Maddie & Tae said they recently did a walk-on during Kelsea Ballerini’s Nashville concert: “She’s really cool. We got to sneak in for one of her shows and do a Dixie Chicks song together. We did ‘There’s Your Trouble,’ but it was so throw & go. Tae & I used to cover this song when we were 15, we’d do it in coffee shops, so we knew it a little bit. But Kelsea was like, I don’t know the song! Oh no! So we’re like stay close so I can hear your tempo. It was so fun. Spontaneous things can be such a challenge, and it’s so much fun. Being around her, she’s got a great energy around her, and she’s a hard worker, it’s great to have girlfriends who are around our age on the road.” Dierks said, “Well maybe bring her out on the Sounds of Summer tour!” “Yeah, maybe we can sneak her on!”
