Tim McGraw on Tomorrowland
Tim McGraw is back on the big screen this weekend, appearing in the new Disney movie “Tomorrowland,” starring George Clooney. McGraw actually began work on the movie almost two years ago. At the time, he told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “It’s a great story. To me, the great thing about working on movies is the people I get to work with, like Billy Bob Thornton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sandra Bullock, and in this one I work with George Clooney and Hugh Laurie.”
What attracted you to this role? “It has to do with the story, and who I’m working with. For me, it’s always a learning experience. Anyone I can get to work with people and walk away with something I’ve learned, that’s a good experience for me. The toughest thing about movies is the waiting. But what I enjoy is being on the set, working with the other actors. You find yourself in the zone, when you’re living in the moment, and when you do that, there’s nothing quite like it.
Do you have scenes with George Clooney? I do. Not many. I’m a big fan of his, although not as big a fan as my wife is! So she’s not allowed to visit the set.”
Earlier this year, Tim was back in our studio, and said this: “It’s amazing the work that goes into these movies. It’s all in the editing. You can spend six weeks working a movie, and when it comes out, you end up being in a 30 second scene, and that’s all you show up in.”
Tim actually has more than 30 seconds. He plays the father of one of the main characters, the one played by Britt Robertson. She plays a curious teenage girl named Casey Newton who wants to travel to the future. George Clooney is the former boy genius who takes her there. The publicity materials describe Tim’s part as “Casey’s hard-as-nails hot-head father.” So he can draw on his own experience as the father of teenage girls for this role.
