Eric Church Gold & Platinum
It was an unseasonably warm day in March as Eric Church was in Nashville to celebrate a #1 song with “Talladega.” His record label took the opportunity to present him two additional gifts: A Platinum record for “The Outsiders,” and a Gold Record for his debut album “Sinners Like Me.” That album was released almost ten years ago, and didn’t contain any Top 10 singles, but its songs have become a mainstay of Eric’s live show. Eric talked about that day with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:
“The Sinners Like Me turning Gold meant more to me because of the journey of where we came from. That day, I told the crowd that we’d just played a show in Chicago, and we played 9 songs of that album. Nobody knew what was a hit or what wasn’t a hit, because it’s been that iconic an album for me, from These Boots, there were songs that never had a life at radio, but have been the foundation of our fan base, so to get a Gold plaque was special to me. The environment when I came out was female dominated, if you can believe that. It was “soccer mom country,” and our stuff was so different, and now that part of country music is a massive part of what we do. I think it was just a different time, different circumstances.”
