Eric Church Gold, Platinum, & #1
The location was the historic Acme Feed & Seed, near the Cumberland River in Nashville. Many years ago, it was a farmer’s feed & supply store. Now it’s an upscale restaurant that counts Alan Jackson among it’s owners. Today it was the site for a party celebrating three big milestones for Eric Church. First, his latest #1: “Talladega.” Second, his third Platinum album: “The Outsiders.” But the one that meant the most to Eric was the plaque he received for his debut album, “Sinners Like Me,” reaching Gold status for sales of 500,000 copies. The album was released ten years ago.
Eric spoke to the audience of family, friends, and music professionals about the meaning of today’s milestones: “I’ve been doing this a while, and I’ve learned that it’s not about what you do, but who you do it with. I’m a sports guy, and I remember when we used to get in a huddle before a game, and I don’t remember if we won, but I remember the faces around that huddle. Those are the people who go to war with you. They take it to the people every night. It’s about that passion. It’s about going out and delivering. I’m the luckiest guy alive. I’m as proud of The Outsiders and Cold One off this album as I am of Hometown and Talladega. That’s what we made our career about. That’s why I’m holding this album right here (points to the 1st album plaque). If you watch us play live right now, we sing 9 songs off this album, and the people sang every song. So that to me is what music’s about. It’s about finding that connection and not being afraid to put it out there. So I thank you guys very much, and I appreciate it more than I can express.”
