Chris Young’s Wild World Tour

Lon Chris Maui2Chris Young co-hosted this week’s Countdown in Maui, and he told host Lon Helton that it had been a long time since he’d been there: “I’ve been to Hawaii before, but I was a teenager.  So getting to play a couple shows, and you & I are hangin’ out here is kind of nice!  I got a couple shows here with Lee Brice.  We’re at the tail end of this co-headline thing we’ve been doing with him.  Had a blast with him.  Just saw him in the hallway a minute ago, and both shows are sold out, so it’s a great way to break up the flight, because it’s a long flight to Australia.”

Chris was appearing at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, so Lon asked him if he does anything different at a smaller venue than an arena? “Yeah, we played primarily arenas.  This is smaller, and I had some people walk up to me while I was having lunch earlier and asked if I had any tickets because the show is sold out.  But a theater show like this is different from an arena.  I feel like you can do different things here than you can do in arenas.”  Chris played two shows in Maui, with the first taking place the night before he did the Countdown, so Lon asked Chris about that first show: “Somebody ran on stage during the first three songs.  They were dancing in the aisles, and security was trying to get them to sit down, it’s awesome when people get into a show like that.  I think the audience will be like most of our crowds…wild & crazy.”

Chris told Lon he had some special backstage catering for the Maui show: “Yeah it’s the same people who do food on set when they film Hawaii Five-O, so we definitely have to go eat tonight!”

From Maui, the Chris Young World Tour traveled to Australia, and Chris told Lon he has a special connection with the land down under: “My bass player is from Brisbane, so his entire family was at our show last time, and at the end of our show, he pulled out an Australian flag, and everyone went nuts.  We went to Australia our first time a few years ago, and by the end of the trip, my bass player’s accent was so it’s hard to understand him.”

After Australia, Chris had shows in South Korea and Japan, and it was his first time to go to either place: “I’m actually really excited about that, we have one day off and we’re going to go to Tokyo, so I’ve never been there and I’m really excited.  We’re just going to the city and hang.  No expectations.  We’re doing two military shows in Japan and one in Korea.  I’ve done a lot of stuff with the military, and have had a great experience with them.  We get treated very well.”

You seem to really enjoy traveling: “I do, but doing two and a half weeks takes up a lot of touring time.  The thing is the people want to hear country music.  It’s never been more popular around the world.”

And then next fall, Chris will return to Europe.  He played there last year with Brad Paisley, but this will be by himself, and there are already a few places he’s looking forward to seeing: “I’ve never been to Germany before.  The fact that we’ll have three shows there is cool.  Stockholm Sweden is one of the places that is a big favorite.  It’s gorgeous, and everybody is so nice.  But that whole trip is going to be perfect.”

Chris will do fairs and festivals this summer, and the rest of his tour schedule is HERE.
