Eric Church: Grammy Or Baby?
The main thing on Eric Church’s mind right now is the personal and professional convergence that’s about to take place. He & his wife are expecting their second child, and Eric is performing at the Grammy Awards, where he’s got four nominations. Eric told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton they might happen at exactly the same time: “The only thing I’ve asked is if we can just get past the Grammys, if we can get to the day after the Grammys or whenever, any time in that period, we’ll be fine.” You know that’s not how things work. “I know, I know, and I’m a little nervous about it, to be honest with you. That’ll be the one time we win. I’ll be gone, on a plane back home.”
Your first son, Boone, is now 3 years old, so what are his thoughts? Is he aware? He’s getting better with it. My wife is 8 months now, so he can feel the baby move, he’s starting to understand there’s going to be a little brother. He’s doing pretty well with it now. It’s going to be fun to have another little boy. Now that I know boys, I’d rather have another boy, so it’s going to be fun.”
Do you have a name picked out? “It’s one of those things, we did this with Boone. We have a few options, and we talked about it this weekend, nothing’s really there yet. We had to see Boone before we had it figured out, so we’re the kind that we’ll wait until after the boy’s here, and then after a day or two, we’ll figure it out.”
Back to the Grammy Awards, it has to feel great to have four nominations: “Unbelievable, and the Grammys are, if you’re a musician, they’re the holy grail, and everyone will say this, but it’s enough just to get nominated, because there’s such a big pool of who’s available. It doesn’t just have to be commercial success. It’s really the merit of what the music is, and I love that.”
The Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday February 8th, broadcast live on CBS-TV. Eric is scheduled to perform, unless a personal matter prevents him from attending.
