Garth Debuts New Song: Mom
This week Garth Brooks co-hosted Country Countdown USA to talk about his new album, “Man Against Machine,” and play his new single, “Mom.” He spoke about his thoughts recording the song with host Lon Helton:
“Yeah just getting a vocal performance on that song was tough. What was weird, of course I saw my mom’s face, and I saw Miss Yearwood’s mom’s face. But the face that kept killing me was my daughter August, who is a brand new mom herself. And that was the face that was killing me, because I’ve got to tell you, this little girl, and I know she’s new at it, the baby is only 14 months old, but I gotta tell you, I don’t think there’s a better mom I’ve ever seen. That kid is always dressed nice, that kid always smells great, and no matter how long her mama has worked, she’s got a full time job and goin’ to college, anything that child needs, she is just a doll. My favorite thing is seeing the character coming out of your own children. Watching them take on life’s chapters is my greatest pastime. As a young mother, she’s picked up the load, her & Chance both, good parents, good kids.”
So have you been doing “Mom” in your shows? You know what? We go to a lot of concerts, and when I go to see the guys I love, I go to see them do their old stuff. Sometimes we pound the new music too hard. People will let you know. After we did “Mom” on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, that night in St. Paul, we saw the signs. A big “M,” and the woman next to her had a big “O,” and then an “M” and they flip it over and it became “WOW.” So the people let you know what they want to hear.”
