FGL & Chase Rice In “Fun House”
Florida Georgia Line and Chase Rice both have songs in this week’s Top 10. But there was a time, not too long ago, when nobody knew either of them. That’s when they actually shared a Nashville house together! But their roots go back even further.
FGL’s Brian Kelley told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that he first met Chase Rice when they both were kids! “I’ve known Chase since we were playing tiny soccer together. We both grew up in Ormond Florida, and he moved to North Carolina when we were in the 5th or 6th grade. We kept in contact when he moved to North Carolina. We both got into music in college. He moved into our house when he moved to Nashville, we got him to move to Nashville. We said, ‘Chase, you gotta move to Nashville.’ At the time he was playing music in North Carolina, and we had a place we called The Fun House, we thought he was gonna live in the living room, and we had someone move out, so he got that room. That worked out perfect.
How many people were in the Fun House? “Five, which is now most of our band. So we said, if you wanna do it, we got a spot, come move in, and we had a lot of contacts, he moved in and joined the crew, that’s how it happened.”
One of the first musical collaborations between FGL’s Brian, Tyler, and Chase was a song called “Cruise.” Brian said, “Cruise is a situation where you’ve got to thank the songwriting gods. There are days when you bang your head on the wall and can’t write anything. This was one of those things that got done quick, we were in the middle of another song, I threw out the first line of the chorus, and we started writing that immediately. When you sing ‘Baby you’re like a song, you make me roll my windows down and cruise,’ that’ll make you stop. It felt good, I sang it again, and the rest is history.”
