Aldean Song Was Once Chesney’s
There’s a song on Jason Aldean’s new album, Old Boots New Dirt, that was originally intended for Kenny Chesney. The song is called “Two Night Town,” and Jason told Country Countdown USA how the song came to him:
“There were a couple guys that were upset with me about that one. Kenny Chesney knew about that song, and after we cut it, I played it for him. Chesney is friends with the writer, and it had been on his radar, and he was in the process of recording his album, and was trying to figure it out. So I was playing him some of my album one day, and he asked , ‘Did you record that Two Night Town song?’ And I said, ‘Yeah,’ and I played it for him, and he stopped it after like the first chorus and said, ‘Man that thing’s a monster.'”
The other artist who wanted “Two Night Town” was Luke Bryan. Jason said he heard from Luke about it: “He heard it and I got a text from him one day. It was a picture of his arm with chill bumps on it.”
Jason went on to say, “It’s one of those songs that’s so well-written, and I think something we’ve all felt at some point in our lives. It was one of those songs that came in, and I fell in love with it. It may be one of the best written songs I’ve ever recorded. It’s actually the last song on the album, which puts the stamp on the record and makes it cool. When I heard it, it’s only happened one other time in my career, but I started thinking Song Of The Year, and I’ve never said that about too many things I’ve recorded, but this is definitely one of those songs.”
Listen to “Two Night Town” and judge for yourself:
Jason Aldean told Lon that he first met Kenny Chesney back in the 90s. At the time, Kenny was opening shows for Clay Walker, and Jason was a teenager living in Georgia. “It was in Savannah. Somehow, I was the opening act, it was me, Kenny and Clay Walker. I met Kenny that night, and got to talk with him a bit. A few months ago, we got together, and while we were sitting there, I got my mother to send me a photo of that night, and it was funny to look at it. He was young, and I was probably 18. It was quite a while back.”
