Cole Swindell’s Shower Surprise
How surprised was Cole Swindell at his CMA New Artist nomination? Let’s just say it caught him at an “inconvenient moment.” Cole told the story to Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:
What were you doing when you got the news? (C) I haven’t had a chance to tell this story yet, so this is perfect. I was at home, and hadn’t heard much about it from my team, because you’re not expecting it. So that morning, I think I knew they were announcing them, and I thought they’d done it earlier on Good Morning America. So I get out of the shower later that morning, and I had 3 or 4 missed calls from my manager, and I thought it was bad news! She’s like, ‘I need you right now!’ I call her right back, and I’m freaking out. Then she tells me I’m nominated for a CMA Award. Then I’m really freaking out! So I run outside, on the phone, towel, neighbor comes out, I text her and say ‘Sorry I’m a little excited,’ I told her why, and it was all good. It’s no joke!
You ran outside in a towel? Yeah, I pace when I’m on the phone, and that was the only place I could go, the neighbor comes out, and I had to move it back in. I texted her. She called back, ‘Oh my gosh you got nominated?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ So she understood.
How many CMA TV shows have you been to? Last year was my first one, I got to walk the carpet, cause Chillin’ It was in the Top 30. That was my first one, so this year, going back, man, it’s crazy, it’s been quite a year, I might get better seats!
Other nominees for New Artist of the Year are Brandy Clark, Brett Eldredge, Kip Moore, and Thomas Rhett. The 48th Annual CMA Awards will take place Wednesday November 5th, broadcast live on ABC-TV.
