Chesney On The Spirit of Women
Kenny Chesney’s new album “The Big Revival” features another duet with Grace Potter. Kenny & Grace won a CMA Award for their first duet: “You & Tequila.” Grace then sang backgrounds on “El Cerrito Place.” This latest collaboration is on a song Kenny actually had a hand in writing called “Wild Child.” He spoke about it with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:
Interesting that you wrote this song from a woman’s perspective: (K) When I think about women, and when you write about women, the place to start is with their spirit. I guess that’s because there’s a lot of women in my family, and I respect all of them. But I guess in my own life, I’m drawn to a certain free spirit in a woman. Someone who loves music, loves life, loves love, and loves walking through the world in her own kind of way. That’s the kind of person I’m attracted to, the kind of person I like being around in my own life. I guess that comes from spending a lot of time in the islands, meeting so many kinds of people, and there are a lot of people I’ve met there who walk through life in the same way. That’s the reason they’re there in the first place. This song is about that kind of person. It’s everything I believe Grace Potter is, so she’s perfect for this song. There’s a lot of the character in this song that reflects Grace, she’s a light in this world. She has such a unique voice. So when we wrote this song, I didn’t know I would go to Grace, because it’s hard to recreate the magic of You & Tequila. I was apprehensive about doing it, because the chemistry might not work, but when she put her voice on it, it was just magic all over again, because it was so authentic to her, because there is a lot of the character in this song Wild Child that really is true to Grace, and made it perfect.
