Joe Nichols’ Baby Girl Georgia

| July 20, 2014

Nichols-BabyJoe Nichols became the father of his third daughter on May 20th.  He & his wife Heather named the baby girl Georgia Blue, and Joe explained the baby’s name to Lon Helton when he co-hosted Country Countdown USA: “Heather & I got married in Georgia, Savannah Georgia, beautiful city, and we wanted to pass along part of our love song into our newest child, so Georgia seemed like a natural thing.  Also Heather is a big Willie Nelson fan, and one of her favorite Willie Nelson songs is “Blue Skies,” so she asked, ‘How about Georgia Blue,’ and I thought it’s brilliant.  Born with blue eyes.  How about that?  Mom and daddy both have brown eyes, and she was born with blue eyes.”

Georgia’s big sister is 2-year old Dylan.  Her dad Joe Nichols described her this way: “I think she’s the sweetest thing ever, but she’s so full of drama, and she’s always on.  It’s funny to watch a little kid go 150 miles an hour, and when it’s bedtime, she goes right out.  Amazing little girl.  I love singing to my little babies.  It does one of two things.  It either gets them singing with me, gets them riles up, or it puts them right to sleep, which I’ve been known to do.”

Joe is on the road now with Lady Antebellum, and the trio’s Hillary Scott is traveling with her 1-year old baby.  So would Joe do the same thing?  “Absolutely.  I miss them every day.  I’ve had Dylan out a few times.  We have plans for later on this summer, when Georgia gets where she can move around better, we’re going to bring out the whole family.”  Have you started to baby-proof the bus? “Not yet, but we need to.  My 2 year old is a hurricane.”

Three girls? “I think there was a master plan up there.  I can’t believe my oldest is 15 years old, soon to be 16 years old, I can’t believe she’s that old, much less I’m that old, she’s growing so quick, and I have to get her a car this year. but she’s a smart girl, had made some good decisions, so I’m proud of her.”

Talk about the teenager who’s about to drive: “You know, it’s funny with kids these days, they’re not so eager to get in the car and drive.  I couldn’t wait to get in  the car and drive.  But now, they have freedom at home, so visiting with friends is not what it used to be.  I couldn’t wait to get my drivers license or  my first car, which I paid for myself from roofing houses.  Today it’s more like, ‘I’ll drive if I have to.’  It seems foreign to me.”

So what kind of car will you buy her? “A safe one.  Something she can’t do too much damage in.  I told her I’d buy her a car, but she has to maintain it herself.  Insurance, gas, all that is on her, and she’s being smart about it.  She’s doing a lot of research.”
