Miranda’s Legendary Friends
Miranda Lambert has friends in high places! As in, friends who are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. At the Academy of Country Music Awards last month, Miranda presented the Crystal Milestone Award to Merle Haggard, who has been a friend and fan for many years. She was joined on stage that night by George Strait, who she toured with 8 years ago. Plus Garth Brooks was part of the tribute. Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton spoke to Miranda about her legendary friends: “I talked to Merle a little. I just said hello. He wasn’t feeling too good that night. But there’s a photo I plan on getting blown up the size of a wall, that is of Garth and George and Merle and ME. It’s like, is this a joke? I kind of look psycho in it, though, my eyes are real wide open, I look a little bit crazy, because I was thinking, ‘Is this really happening to me? Three heroes in one photo.’ But I didn’t know which way to turn and who to talk to next. I couldn’t figure out who to talk to. It was so crazy to be on a stage with all of them. When Garth was talking, I was standing near George, and then Merle came out. It was very surreal.” Miranda will have a chance to be near ONE of her heroes next week. She’s a guest on George Strait’s final Cowboy Rides Away show at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. She told Lon she’s looking forward to being there: “I just can’t imagine what’s going through George’s mind that night. Just seeing him at the ACMs, he still loves it. He has this look of absolute passion when he sings. Just having other artists to celebrate with him, in his home state, biggest stadium you could think of, I’m so thankful to be a part of it, but I think it’ll be emotional and electric. I can’t imagine the feeling in the room, it’s a once in a lifetime feeling. I was with Kenny Chesney when he was taking a year off, and it was very emotional, so this will be 20 times that. I just feel like there’ll be a moment when everybody gets chills, I don’t know the crowd will let him leave.” Other stars on hand next Saturday night in Dallas will be Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, and Martina McBride.
