Luke Bryan Meets George Strait
Luke Bryan co-hosted this year’s ACM Awards with Blake Shelton. He was also nominated for Entertainer of the Year. When George Strait won the award, Luke had hoped to speak with George. Luke told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that the two met in a casino: “The next day he was still in town, and I got to really meet George in a good setting, backstage at the MGM Grand, there was a little private gambling area. I was playing blackjack, and George was playing blackjack. It was nice to really talk to him for the first time in a cool environment where there weren’t a bunch of people around us. But the funny thing was, I kind of regret it, because we were at separate tables, and I wanted to play blackjack with him for two hours. But then I was like, I can’t be that stupid guy to sit with George for two hours. He’s gonna leave that table goin,’ ‘God that kid just wore me out!’ But he and his wife Norma were there, and I was glad to visit with him, and talk to him, and congratulate him on winning Entertainer of the Year. He’s a big reason why kids like me put on starched shirts and played honky tonks back in the day.”
