Behind Hunter Hayes ACM Song

When Hunter Hayes performed “Invisible” on the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards, something very unusual happened.  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton told Hunter he spoke with the producer of the TV show.  Rac Clark told Lon it was a tough performance, because they had Hunter’s face hidden from the audience for the first few minutes of the song.  When Hunter heard that, he told Lon, “They didn’t tell me that actually.  They always keep the scary stuff away from me, so I don’t worry, but I found this out afterwards.  You want to introduce everything visually, you see all the elements of the set, and we were projecting on the white curtain, we were projecting shadows from the record art, but the idea of being the shadow on the wall.  Originally, to fix that, I was facing backwards, and there was going to be a camera in the back of the stage so we could get a shot.  That’s what I was told.  I noticed in the last two rehearsals the camera person who was going to be there wasn’t there.  But I found out afterwards it was a risk on their part.  They had an additional vision for this whole thing, and to me, it shows everybody’s gut instinct and heart and soul to believe that this is the message we want to give.  I thought it was a great idea, the whole team did a great job, and then having the string section with us for the first time, so it was an amazing experience for me.”
