Eric Church “Unforgettable Image”
For Eric Church, it’s an image he’ll never forget. It happened minutes into the ACM Awards TV show a few weeks ago. The Band Perry opened the show with a rousing performance of their hit “Chainsaw.” The song ended, and a couple of confetti canons went off. Eric told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he was sitting near one: “I was in front of the machine. I couldn’t really see, I was blinded by it. So I didn’t know what was happening. Then I noticed, I started looking around, and an image I’ll never forget, ever, as long as I live, as I looked to my right, and there’s George Strait, and he’s got about a foot of it on his black cowboy hat. And behind him is Merle Haggard, and Merle Haggard is completely covered. The absurdity of it! I just laughed. Because I’m looking at George and Merle and all this confetti. Even Blake & Luke’s response when they walked out and saw everybody. Luke told me they genuinely thought it was funny to see everybody was swamped in all this confetti. Strait had a foot of it, and he was laughing.”
Afterwards, Kimberly Perry told reporters in the press room she thought the confetti would be a “great icebreaker.”
