Thompson Square Meets Shania

Imagine a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway in Las Vegas watching Shania Twain’s “Still The One” show, and then going backstage to meet the star.  That’s what happened to the husband/wife duo Thompson Square last month.  Shawna Thompson told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “We were actually out in Vegas playing a couple of shows, and we had a day off, so I talked to our manager about getting tickets to see Shania and he hooked it up, and we went for Valentine’s night.  It was pretty of special, because Keifer & I actually sang ‘From This Moment On’ at our wedding together.  It was pretty emotional.  We told that to Shania.”  Keifer adds, “We actually got to see her after the show, go backstage and meet her.  The show was incredible.  You forget all the songs she had.” Shawna said, “We didn’t realize we were going to meet her until halfway through Valentine’s dinner.  We got a text message from our manager.  Keifer was acting strange, he didn’t want to tell me what was going on, he wanted to keep it a surprise.  I kept poking him and poking him, and he said ‘We’re gonna get to meet her.’  So I immediately I got nervous, and it was a real cool experience, we got to meet her, and she was really sweet.”

If that wasn’t enough for a memorable Valentine’s Day, something else happened to the duo while they were in Las Vegas. Shawna says, “We met Jerry Rice!  It was amazing.  We were in the Miracle Mall in Vegas, doing some shopping, and we noticed this line in front of a sports memorabilia store.  And I saw this sign that said ‘Jerry Rice Here Today.'” Keifer adds, “What says ‘I love you’ like an autographed Jerry Rice jersey?  It was Vegas, Jerry Rice, and Shania Twain.  That beats the crap outta flowers and candy.  We were killing time before the Shania show, so we bought a jersey and got it autographed.   Real cool dude.”
