Thompson Square Just Feels Good
Last month, Thompson Square launched its first-ever headline tour. They’re calling it the “Just Feels Good Tour,” after their current album. Before they hit the road, the duo held a tour preview for the Nashville media. Keifer & Shawna talked about the tour with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton.
Keifer: We’ve been on some great tours these last three years, and we’re very fortunate and very grateful for those opportunities. But the one thing we wanted to do is play this album. We’re doing it almost in its entirety right now. We wanted to get out, do our own thing, play shows, stretch out, mess with the production, and do some fun stuff. Our shows are a little bit different. The kind of show we like to see is real high energy, but also has some tender moments too, because we like to sing ballads. It’s cool to just stand there and sing, get lost in the moment. It’s fun, man, it’s really fun.
What does the stage look like? (Shawna) Last year, we had an elevator because we saw it on the Lady A tour. We quickly found out that things go wrong with elevators. I think it was our second show with Luke, it didn’t work. So our reveal didn’t happen. (Keifer) We got up high enough to see the top of my head. My eyes were above the stage, but it just stopped, so we crawled around and came back on stage from the side. (Shawna) But this year, we learned a lot from Luke, that people want to know who we are, so we want to share that. (Keifer) Thompson Square fans love to see us sing together and get close, and we enjoy doing that. It’s nice to shut down the music and talk to the crowd a little bit.
But the stage is full production, right? (Keifer) Yes, last year’s production was cool, we had eight video strips, all the lights and staging. This year, we’re playing smaller venues, but we wanted the production to be bigger than last year. I think there’s 18 video screens that work independently or together. The steps are all illuminated. We did more custom content for the video walls. We had a cartoon created for Getaway Car. It’s head and shoulders above last year.
